Nationwide strike: "This isn't what Nigeria needs" -- NPF

In response to the recent announcement by organized labour of a proposed nationwide strike action, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a press release urging caution and adherence to legal procedures to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the country.

The NPF acknowledges the right of organized labour to advocate for the interests of workers but emphasizes the importance of complying with existing laws governing such actions.

With the Federal Government declaring the planned strike as illegal and premature, the Nigeria Police Force views this move as potentially escalating tensions and political instability.

In the press release, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, representing the Inspector-General of Police, emphasized the need for organized labour to engage in ongoing deliberations at the Tripartite Committee aimed at determining a new minimum wage. Adejobi stressed the importance of shelving the planned strike to prevent hardships on the public and maintain order and stability in the country.

Assuring the public of ample deployments across the nation to ensure lawful activities continue unhindered, the Nigeria Police Force urges citizens to remain calm and carry on with their daily routines. However, organized labour is urged to act responsibly, prioritizing dialogue and legal avenues to address grievances.

The press release, dated June 3rd, 2024, highlights the NPF’s stance on the proposed strike action and its commitment to upholding law and order while encouraging peaceful resolutions to disputes.
