NAFDAC cracks down on illegal alcohol production in Lagos Trade Fair Complex

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal operation producing and distributing various brands of alcoholic beverages at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.
Acting on credible intelligence, a team from NAFDAC’s Investigation & Enforcement Directorate raided several locations within the complex, including Shop 34, Shop 17/24, and attachment 17/2 in Niger 4 Plaza.
Upon entry, the team discovered unauthorized production facilities with mini plastic mixing tanks, improvised filters, cartons of empty bottles bearing intact labels, corks, and packaging materials. They also found assorted already produced and packaged drinks.
In a statement released by the agency, over 3,452 cartons of empty and filled bottles, valued at over two hundred and fifty million naira (₦250 million), were seized and evacuated from the premises.
NAFDAC says the operation was in line with its mandate to rid the nation of counterfeited and fake regulated products. Investigations are ongoing to determine those behind the illegal alcohol production and distribution racket.
‘’NAFDAC urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office, send an email to reforms@nafdac.gov.ng or call 0909 763 0506 and 0909 763 0507 (9am – 5pm).’‘ the statement read in part.
