"My God were we Lucky" -- Liverpool manager laughs at Chelsea

Liverpool are set to play in front of the biggest crowd at Anfield for half a century on Sunday against Manchester United but before the Sunday fun fair, the club tested the new stand by inviting 7000 fans to test the extra seats which would take Anfield stadium capacity to around 57,000.

Of course, during the event, Jurgen Klopp could resist taking a jab at Liverpool’s recent summer window that came with a lot of hiccups particularly in regards to the failed moves for Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo.

In a widely reported transfer saga, Chelsea and Liverpool both went for the same players in the summer window, with Liverpool looking to boost its midfield after the departure of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson from the club.

However, they move for the two stars failed as former Brighton star, Moises Caicedo famously turned down the Reds in favor of a move to Stamford Bridge, with former Southampton player, Romeo Lavia also doing the same a few weeks later.

Flash forward to the current season, it appears the move or at least its failure, proved beneficial to Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp considering the current form the Reds are on and also the arrival of alternative stars such as Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch from the Bundesliga.

Their form contrasts Chelsea’s current form as the West-London side sits 12th in the premier league table while the Merseyside Reds currently sit 1st in the league, and of course, at the test event, Jurgen Klopp couldn’t resist trolling and taunting the opposition.

The German speaking to 7,000 Liverpool fans said;

“In the summer we had a few strange things happen in the transfer market but now I can say ‘my god we were lucky!’ — We didn’t know that in that moment, but I’m really happy that it worked out like that. You never know!

“I love it – it’s unbelievable. When it started, I couldn’t imagine how it would look. Seeing it now, it’s emotional. This is an historical moment and I’m proud to be here tonight. What a beautiful new stand. I can’t wait for us to use it.”
