Nigerian police officers have detained Jasmine Chioma Okafor and her brother, Onyeabuchi Daniel Okafor, for allegedly stealing monies intended for their father, Mr Ibu’s treatment.
Police alleged that the legendary actor’s children took N55 million from his contributions, and they were apprehended at the command in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID) Spokesperson, ASP Mayegun Aminat, confirmed this in a communiqué issued on Thursday, January 25.
He said that Stella Maris, the wife of John Okafor, nicknamed Mr Ibu, filed a plea for the arrest of the two siblings for allegedly plotting to swindle him.
According to reports, Stella Maris was in charge of managing the family’s money and covering Mr. Ibu’s medical expenditures. However, Onyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu reportedly took Mrs Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor’s phone and hacked Mr. Ibu’s bank information.
They then re-installed Mr. Ibu’s mobile banking applications on Onyeabuchi Daniel Okafor’s phone in preparation for the execution of their preconceived fraudulent plans, and they deleted the banking applications originally installed on Mr. Ibu’s phone, thereby taking direct and full control of Mr. Ibu’s banking activities in relation to the funds donated by members of the public in support of his medicals.
The statement reads in part; “On 6th September, 2023, a petition was received from Diamond Waves Law on behalf of Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor wherein one Onyeabuchi Daniel Okafor, Valentine Okafor, both of whom are sons of Mr. John Ikechukwu Okafor (Alias Ibu) and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu were alleged to have conspired to defraud Mr. Ibu while being on sick bed.”
