Mr. Ibu: Peter Okoye, Shehu Sani react to Actor’s death
The Nigerian entertainment industry is mourning the loss of veteran Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, who passed away at Evercare Hospital in Lagos State after a prolonged battle with illness.
Mr. Ibu, aged 62, had been grappling with health challenges that ultimately led to the amputation of both his legs. He was diagnosed with diseased blood vessels, which significantly affected his health in recent years.
In response to the news of Mr Ibu’s demise, Peter Okoye, one-half of the award-winning music duo P-Square, expressed his condolences via his X account on Twitter.
Okoye’s tweet read, “Rest well Mr Ibu. We will definitely miss you! #RIP.”

Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, also joined in commemorating the late actor, describing his passing as “sad and unfortunate.” Sani highlighted Mr Ibu’s remarkable contribution to the entertainment industry, noting his ability to bring joy and laughter to audiences through his unique talent and humorous creativity.
He emphasized Mr Ibu’s enduring legacy, which has made him a beloved figure in Nigerian homes and hearts for decades.
He wrote;
“The news of the passing away of the comic Actor Mr Ibu is sad and unfortunate. A distinguished artist who made us laugh, smile and lightened up our lives with his unique talent and humorous creativity. For decades,he has been a delightful spice in our homes and hearts. A great loss to our country and the entertainment industry. May his soul rest in peace.”
