This world cup tournament may just about go as the best the world has ever witnessed in a while as Morocco made history to become the first African team to make it into the Semi-final of a grand tournament, and they did that against Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Who are the world cup favorites again? Brazil? They are out. France? They still have their own problems to worry of against a team from the British isle. Argentina? Well, they need to overcome Croatia first in the Semi-Final. Or was it Portugal?

How can Portugal be favorites? Perhaps because of their star players like Cristiano Ronaldo, of course not, they are out, Morocco made sure of it.

It was quite one of the shockers in the world cup so far. It is the shocker no one saw coming.

Prior to the tournament, if all eyes were on any country from Africa to do the business, it wasn’t on the North African country but the likes of Senegal, but as today as shown, from being underdogs in their group, Morocco has not only come out top of the group but right now, going past the Cristiano Ronaldo brothers of Portugal to earn a slot in the semi-final.

They came into the game knowing what they wanted, and surely how to get it from the European side, as they played a tactical master class to deny whatever attempts Portugal could conjure up to steal right under their noses a first-half lead.

Youssef En-Nesyri was the man to do the heroic job of netting in the lead through a header from a cross by Yahia Attiyat Allah three minutes before the half-time whistle could go off.

It was a risky lead that Morocco held on to that not even the intervention of Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Cancelo, Rafael Leao or Vitinha could change despite their introduction into the game.

Morocco’s record for having not conceded a goal against an opposition player through to this stage may not be an over-exaggeration anymore but one that is merited.

Spain’s Rodri may try to undermine Morocco’s brilliance but at this stage, no one can deny it.
