A Win For Morocco, A Win For Africa—CAF Celebrates

Morocco rubbed off the tears of the African teams that exited the world cup tournament in Qatar in the round of 16 with their victory against Spain on Tuesday afternoon, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) coming into the picture to celebrate the win as one for all of Africa.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco defeated Spain in their round-of-16 match on Tuesday, and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in a social media post expressed their delight.

For the first time ever, the North Africans upset La Furia Roja 3-0 on penalties to go to the quarterfinals.

After 120 minutes of thrilling football play, neither team faltered.

In the first half, both Nayef Aguerd and Marco Asensio missed excellent opportunities.

When substitute Pablo Sarabia hit the post in the final minute of extra time, Spain was unfortunate not to score the winning goal.

Yassine Bounou, the goalie for Morocco, was the hero after blocking two of Spain’s penalty kicks and having the other one strike the post.

“NEVER STOP ROARING! 🦁
🇲🇦 Morocco reach the #FIFAWorldCup quarter-finals for the first-ever time!
What an achievement! 👏,” reads a tweet on CAF’s official Twitter handle.

On Saturday, the Atlas Lions will play Portugal in the quarterfinal.
