Moises Caicedo could solve 3 Arsenal problems at a go

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta may have found a solution to two of his team’s problems with the potential signing of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The Gunners are in need of midfield reinforcements and have been linked with both Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice. Arsenal previously made two bids for the 21-year-old in January, but Brighton managed to keep hold of their prized asset.

However, recent performances have highlighted the need for defensive cover, with Arsenal struggling in the absence of central defender William Saliba.

The Frenchman suffered a back injury against Sporting Lisbon in March, and his absence could be one of the reasons why Arsenal failed to catch up with Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Caicedo’s versatility and defensive prowess were on display during Brighton’s recent match against Manchester United, where he played as an inverted right-back in the first half.

This positional change has caught the attention of Arteta, who may be able to solve two problems at once by signing the Ecuador international.

Should Arsenal sign Moises Caicedo, the midfielder’s proven ability to play at right-back could save the club millions in the transfer window. Arsenal fans have been calling for a right-back to allow Ben White to play Saliba’s role alongside Gabriel Magalhaes. If needed, Caicedo could fill in at right-back and provide the defensive cover that Arsenal have been lacking in Saliba’s absence.

Caicedo signed a new contract with Brighton that will keep him at the Amex Stadium until 2027.

However, news of the contract extension has reportedly not deterred Arsenal from pursuing the young midfielder. With the Gunners needing both midfield and defensive reinforcements, the signing of Caicedo could prove to be a smart move for Arteta and his team.
