Mohbad's widow, Omowunmi Aloba recounts final moments

In a heart-wrenching revelation during a recent Coroner’s Inquest convened in Ikorodu, Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the late 27-year-old singer known as Mohbad (real name IleriOluwa Aloba), shared a harrowing account of the events leading to her husband’s untimely demise on Tuesday afternoon, September 12, 2023.

According to Omowunmi Aloba, her husband’s passing was the result of a series of distressing incidents, including bullying, psychological trauma, and a prior arrest by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). These events had taken a significant toll on the young artist.

On the fateful day of his death, Mohbad had taken a shower but was feeling unwell and requested the air conditioner in his room to be turned on. When the AC malfunctioned, they moved him to their son’s room.

Omowunmi recounts being in the kitchen at the time and witnessed a nurse administering an injection to her husband.

She overheard Mohbad asking the nurse to remove the syringe, which prompted them to rush him to the hospital. During the car ride, Mohbad’s condition deteriorated, with his hands growing cold.

Desperate to get him help, Omowunmi called for assistance from a friend, OG, who brought a motorcycle to transport Mohbad to the hospital. Tragically, it was at the hospital that they received the devastating news of Mohbad’s passing.

Omowunmi couldn’t believe it, as she had spoken to him just 20 minutes earlier, and he had plans to take their five-month-old son for a photo shoot after his injection.

The events leading up to Mohbad’s demise were further outlined by Omowunmi. The day before his death, the couple had attended a music show with a group of about ten people. Mohbad performed at the event, but the evening took a toll on him, and he expressed a desire to return home.

However, they were asked to wait for other artists to finish their performances, leading to a tense hour of waiting.

A dispute erupted in the car when Mohbad argued with his younger brother, triggered by a comment from Mohbad’s friend, Owodunni Ibrahim (known as Prime Boy), who suggested that Mohbad’s brother should not disrespect him.

An altercation ensued, which Omowunmi Aloba tried to break up by calling Mohbad’s workers to intervene.

During the altercation, Mohbad sustained a minor injury to his elbow when he hit the car window.

The nurse who administered the fatal injection had been treating Mohbad for two years, but his health had deteriorated following an incident involving the NDLEA on February 22, 2022.

During that encounter, Mohbad was beaten and his head was struck with a gun. This traumatic experience left him fearful and reluctant to visit hospitals, despite needing medical attention.

Following the NDLEA incident, Mohbad’s mental health deteriorated, and he began experiencing paranoia and memory loss, even forgetting his phone password. Omowunmi revealed that people began labeling him as “mad,” and he sank into a deep depression.

After Mohbad’s death, Omowunmi Aloba was left unaware of his burial location or even the mortuary he was taken to.

She also disclosed that she had received threats and had to wear a face mask when going out due to concerns for her safety.

Tragically, Mohbad had dreams of sending his son to Canada and had even obtained a visa for this purpose, as he wished for his son, Liam, to grow up in Canada.

Financial constraints led to the decision to send his son to Canada, a plan to which Omowunmi had agreed.
