“Mohbad was buried before he died” — Mother spills
In a recent exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH, Abosede, the mother of the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has made startling claims regarding her son’s demise. She alleges that Mohbad’s father, Joseph, buried him before his actual death.
Abosede disclosed that despite spending ten days at Joseph’s residence just before Mohbad’s passing, she was unaware of the day he died. She recounted her efforts to bring the family together after learning of Mohbad’s demise, but Joseph allegedly resisted her attempts.
“I believe that my son was not dead as of the time he was buried. I actually told them not to bury him, but they refused,” Abosede stated, expressing her doubts about the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s burial.
In response, Aloba, Mohbad’s father, attributed the swift burial to Yoruba tradition, asserting that it is customary not to delay the burial of a deceased person when both parents are alive. He explained that had Mohbad passed away at an older age, the option of storing his remains in a morgue might have been considered.
Aloba further clarified that Mohbad owned the property where he was laid to rest and had donated it to him to build a chapel, emphasizing that the decision to proceed with the burial promptly aligns with Yoruba cultural norms.
Mohbad, aged 27, passed away on September 12, 2023, in Lagos State, leaving behind a legacy in the Nigerian music industry. The conflicting perspectives regarding the circumstances of his burial have sparked discussions among fans and the public alike.
