Messi comes under fire for recent action
Lionel Messi, the Argentine footballer and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward, has been criticized for his recent trip to Saudi Arabia, a day after PSG’s disappointing 3-1 loss to Lorient in Ligue 1.
Messi, who is the traveling brand ambassador of Saudi Arabia, flew to the Middle Eastern country on Monday to fulfill his promotional duties. However, his decision to travel so soon after the defeat drew the ire of French football journalist Daniel Riolo.
In a Twitter post, Riolo expressed his frustration over the situation, saying, “The day after another dismal performance, Messi is in Saudi Arabia on promotion. Back on Wednesday for everyone. Is there not a single day when something goes wrong at PSG?”
Messi’s performance during the Lorient game was not up to his usual standards. He did not register a single shot on target and completed only three dribbles against the opponent on Sunday.
The criticism of Messi’s trip to Saudi Arabia comes at a time when PSG is facing intense scrutiny for their poor performances in recent weeks. The club has suffered several defeats in Ligue 1 and was eliminated from the Champions League by Manchester City in the semifinals.
PSG’s team has also been under fire for its recent results, with many fans slamming the team and booing off players including Messi.
Despite the criticisms, Messi and PSG will need to regroup quickly as they prepare to face Montpellier in their next Ligue 1 match.
