Mason Greenwood — Premier League clubs put on alert

Mason Greenwood -- Premier League clubs put on alert

Premier League clubs have reportedly initiated contact with Manchester United regarding the potential transfer of Mason Greenwood, according to recent claims.

Mason Greenwood, who has been absent from Manchester United’s squad since 2022, faced serious legal allegations including attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault. However, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges in February 2023, citing the withdrawal of key witnesses and the emergence of new evidence. Throughout the ordeal, Greenwood consistently denied the accusations.

Despite the legal clearance, Manchester United launched an internal investigation into Greenwood’s conduct, resulting in a mutual agreement that the forward should seek opportunities away from Old Trafford.

The one-time England international found refuge at La Liga club Getafe on loan, where he has demonstrated his prowess with 10 goals and six assists.

Recent reports from the Mail Online suggest that Manchester United has made selling Greenwood their top priority, as indicated in briefings to club staff. While Getafe is eager to secure another loan deal, United is purportedly inclined to explore potential transfer options, considering Greenwood’s resurgence in form.

According to The Telegraph, at least two Premier League clubs have expressed interest in acquiring Greenwood’s services. However, the player is more likely to seek opportunities abroad if sold this summer.

In Spain, Atletico Madrid has been linked with Greenwood, although they have downplayed any concrete interest. Meanwhile, financial constraints may hinder Barcelona’s pursuit of the United academy graduate.

However Real Madrid’s interest in Mason Greenwood appears lukewarm, while other Spanish clubs are reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

Beyond Spain, clubs in Germany and Italy, including Juventus and Lazio, have reportedly registered their interest in Greenwood, adding to the intrigue surrounding his potential transfer.
