Manchester United ready to admit its David de Gea 'error'

Premier League giant, Manchester United took fans by surprise when they allowed their long term goalie, David de Gea to leave without even a proper farewell.

It was a move that ended up earning the club more criticisms than it wanted, and according to reports, it appears the Old Trafford hierarchy are mulling over admitting to that error by bringing back the Spaniard on a short-term deal.

The report comes courtesy of the UK Sun, indicating that the Spanish shot-stopper could make a swift return to Old Trafford, just months after his contract with the club had ended.

David de Gea, who spent 12 years at Manchester United, left the club unceremoniously less than six months ago. Since his departure, he has not signed any contract with another club.

The Spaniard’s time at the Red Devils saw him make 545 appearances and establish himself as a beloved figure both on and off the pitch.

Sources suggest that part of the motivation behind this potential reunion is the discontent among some Manchester United players regarding the handling of De Gea’s exit.

The decision to bring back the experienced goalkeeper, even on a short-term basis, appears to be a response to the concerns raised within the squad.

The key factor driving this consideration is the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in January, during which Cameroon’s Andre Onana is expected to be on international duty.

Manchester United is concerned about the void in goalkeeping cover when Onana departs for the tournament.

As of now, Manchester United has Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir as their other senior goalkeepers. However, neither of them has made an appearance in the current season.

The unexpected change in Onana’s decision to retire from international football caught the club off guard, necessitating a swift response to ensure adequate goalkeeping cover during his absence.
