Manchester City title celebrations turn fans off

Manchester City players have faced criticism from fans on social media after footage of their subdued title-winning celebrations was aired. Pep Guardiola’s side secured their third consecutive Premier League title after Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

City’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday was more of a celebratory lap, as they had already wrapped up the league before the game. Julian Alvarez scored the sole goal of the match in the 12th minute, slotting the ball past Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga after a pass from Cole Palmer.

Despite still having important fixtures ahead, including the Champions League final against Inter Milan and a match against Manchester United, the team entered the dressing room immediately after the game to mark their Premier League triumph. However, fans were quick to express their disappointment with the lack of enthusiasm shown by the players.

Behind-the-scenes footage, aired by Sky Sports, revealed players such as Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish celebrating with muted excitement, pumping their fists in the air and engaging in casual conversations.

Social media users took to Twitter to criticize the perceived “dead” atmosphere in the dressing room, despite the team winning the prestigious trophy for the ninth time.

One user humorously compared the atmosphere to a funeral, while another quipped about being louder during lunchtime football with friends. Several viewers admitted feeling uncomfortable while watching the footage, describing it as awkward.

However, there were fans who came to the team’s defense, explaining that the title had been secured before the game, which explained the relaxed atmosphere.

They suggested that if their own team had won the title, the celebrations would have been livelier. Another supporter pointed out that City’s lack of exuberance could be attributed to their recent success, implying that they have become accustomed to winning.

Despite being crowned this season’s champions, Manchester City still have two league games remaining. They will face Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday night before their final showdown against Thomas Frank’s Brentford side at the Gtech Community Stadium next weekend.

As the City players look to finish the season on a high note, the subdued celebrations have sparked a debate among fans about the appropriate level of jubilation for a team that has experienced repeated success in recent years.
