Make Casemiro captain — Manchester United fans to Ten Hag
Manchester United fans have expressed their admiration for midfielder Casemiro, with some calling for him to be named club captain after his agent revealed how the Brazilian international has been keeping busy during his recent suspension.
The 31-year-old has been a key player for United this season, following his move from Real Madrid last summer.
Despite being ineligible for domestic matches, following his red card against Southampton which led to a four-match ban, Casemiro has been a vital player in United’s Europa League campaign, and helped the team to win the Carabao Cup.
According to his agent Oscar Ribot, Casemiro has been using his time off to watch as much football as possible, with the aim of keeping up to date with tactics and strategies that could help United in their quest to finish in the Premier League’s top four.
“Taking football away from Case is like taking food from his table, it’s like he can’t live, can’t breathe. He wakes up thinking about football and goes to bed thinking about football,” Ribot told The Guardian.
“He watches hundreds of games: any team, any league. I’ve seen him watch Chinese games because there is always some detail. He says he won’t be a coach, but he will. He’s already one in a footballer’s body.”
Ribot went on to say that Casemiro has been calculating the points needed to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League table.
“This month, he’s watched everything [whilst he’s been suspended], calculating the points needed and the days left. Case has signed for four years plus one. He’s come to win titles; this month has been hard, but there’s nothing else on his mind.”
Manchester United fans have been quick to praise Casemiro’s dedication to the club, with many calling for him to be named captain.
“Make him captain,” wrote one Twitter user, while another said “Can’t express how much I want him as captain.” A third added: “Words can’t describe how lucky we are that he plays for our club.”
Casemiro is set to start in Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final tie against Sevilla, where United will be looking to take a step closer to winning the competition.
