Luke Shaw signs new deal with Manchester United

Manchester United’s defender Luke Shaw has signed a new deal with the club that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2027. The 25-year-old left-back, who has made 249 appearances for the club since joining from Southampton in 2014, had a one-year extension triggered in his contract earlier this season to extend his stay until 2024.

Shaw expressed his delight at signing the new deal, saying, “I’ve grown immensely since coming to Manchester all those years ago, both as a person and as a player; I know what is needed to succeed at a club like this. We’re at the beginning of our journey under the manager and his coaching staff. There’s a great opportunity to create something special here, and I’m going to give everything to be part of that.”

Manchester United’s football director John Murtough also spoke highly of Shaw, calling him “a massively important player to the squad” who “understands the expectations for success, and the hard work, commitment and high standards required to achieve it.”

Murtough added that Shaw’s leadership skills have grown along with his on-field abilities, and the club is looking forward to seeing him in a United shirt for years to come.

With Shaw’s deal now settled, Manchester United will turn their attention to resolving the contract situations of other key players, including Marcus Rashford, David de Gea, and Diogo Dalot. Rashford and Dalot also had one-year extensions triggered in their contracts earlier this season, and United are currently negotiating new long-term deals with both players.

Meanwhile, the club is in talks with De Gea, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season. While United have opted not to trigger a one-year extension in De Gea’s deal, they remain keen to keep him at the club and are reportedly asking him to reduce his salary. With these key negotiations ongoing, Manchester United are looking to secure the future of their squad as they aim for continued success under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
