Supreme court to announce verdict on local government autonomy case
The Supreme Court will deliver its verdict on Thursday regarding the autonomy of the country’s 774 local governments.
The decision is eagerly anticipated as it addresses the legal case seeking complete independence for these local entities, with the announcement scheduled for July 11.
The federal government has initiated the legal action, labeled SC/CV/343/2024, against all 36 states of the federation, challenging their control over local governments.
This case has significant implications for the structure of local governance and federal-state relations in the country.
