Who will replace Salah at Liverpool during AFCON

Liverpool played a thriller versus Newcastle United at Anfield, with one man playing a major role in the humbling of the Magpies, which was the inevitable Mohamed Salah.

Salah, has been perhaps the name most synonymous with Liverpool in the modern era, with the Egyptian attack being a vital piece in keeping the Reds afloat and in the title race and challenging for titles this season and in every other.

However, the Egyptian’s time at Anfield are numbered, maybe not on a permanent basis as of yet, but for sure, the day Liverpool will have to do without Mohamed Salah is coming, and even though it might not be as a transfer move, it may be during a short lived AFCON window.

For the former AS Roma star however, he believes the team and the club will do well without him and is certain that the Reds will continue winning games with or without him.

Speaking to Sky Sports and former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, Salah said;

“But without me, I’m sure the [Liverpool] players will manage to win games.

“We have fantastic players, really good quality, they just need to keep the pressure away and just play their football. We have players who can play in my position, they can do what I am doing.” the Egyptian said.

Addressing Sky Sports post-game, the No. 11 also talked about the reason behind the alteration, citing a missed penalty in the first half as the impetus. Salah disclosed,

“The other ones [boots] I missed the pen with, I just trained with yesterday. It’s not superstitious because I play with many boots. But when I feel it’s going to play with my head, OK, out, change the boots!”

Making amends for his earlier penalty miss, Salah contributed significantly by netting a goal early in the second half and played instrumental roles in Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo’s goals.

The Egyptian forward capped off his impactful performance by calmly converting a late second penalty awarded to Liverpool.
