Liverpool dealt massive injury blow to hand City the advantage

Just when the season was starting to get unbelievably good for Liverpool, it appears the premier league leaders have been hit by a new reality as key player, Trent Alexander-Arnold has picked up a knee injury.

According to the latest pre-match press conference by Assistant Manager, Pepijn Lijnders, the Liverpool full-back is set to miss some few weeks out on the sidelines, which might include some key games for the Reds.

Lijnders revealed that Alexander-Arnold hyperextended his knee in the previous game, resulting in a tear in the lateral ligament.

The defender underwent a scan, which indicated a recovery period of a few weeks, keeping him out of action for the immediate future.

On a positive note, Virgil van Dijk is set to return to the squad after successfully recovering from his injury. Lijnders mentioned that Van Dijk underwent training and looked promising, benefiting from not traveling with the team to London.

Regarding other players, Lijnders provided updates on their progress. Dominic Solanke is continuing his recovery but won’t be available for the upcoming match.

Meanwhile, Andy Robertson is nearing the three-month mark of his injury and is scheduled for a check-up with the surgeon. If the scan shows positive progress, Robertson will head to Dubai for comprehensive training sessions to aid his rehabilitation.

Similarly, Kostas Tsimikas is progressing rapidly and is expected to rejoin team training by the end of the month, along with Robertson, provided their recoveries continue on the right track.

With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Thiago Alcantara, Andrew Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas, Joel Matip out, Liverpool face troubled times heading into the second half of the season, which hands Manchester City the advantage to pursue for a 4th consecutive premier league title.
