How Chelsea's failure could be a win for Liverpool

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp in his pre-match press conference earlier today has confirmed a major fitness concern for France international, Ibrahima Konate ahead of Sunday’s fixture versus Newcastle United.

After recording their first victory of the 2023/24 season against AFC Bournemouth, Liverpool face an uphill task at Saint James’ Park with the former RB Leipzig defender set to miss the clash.

According to Jurgen Klopp, Konate is set to be out of the contest after developing a muscle concern prior to the tie.

However, the German goes on to confirm that prior worries about Trent Alexander Arnold are laid to rest, with the England international set to return to the starting lineup. Klopp also confirmed that Thiago Alcantara is set to return to the team.

“Trent [is fit] yes. Thiago and Curtis from Monday onwards and Ibou Konate is a doubt.

“Playing 40 mins with 10 men didn’t help! That’s the situation. Very good news [about Mac Allister’s red card]. Massive relief.” Klopp said.

On Ibrahima Konate, the German strictly said; “Muscle.”, confirming the Frenchman will be a notable absentee in the game.

Liverpool look set to welcome Joel Matip to the lineup after a brief period on the bench in the Reds’ first 2 fixtures.

Jurgen Klopp has gone on to confirm the club has no plans going into the current window for a Centre back signing before the window closes.

“We have in an ideal world 8 centre-halves and I have no doubt about the quality of the boys.

“Quansah a super talented player. At this moment we are covered but it’s not where you can be prepared for every situation. We will do our absolute best.” he said.
