Liverpool are in a better place than Arsenal -- Jermaine Pennant

Former Liverpool and Arsenal player, Jermaine Pennant considers Liverpool are in a better position than the Gunners in challenging for the Premier League title this season.

In a podcast on talkSport, the former England player revealed that the minimum target for the Reds going into the 2023/24 season is a top 4 finish judging on how Liverpool have started the season compared to the previous campaign.

Pennant considers that Jurgen Klopp’s men look very solid, with the introduction of Dominik Szoboslai bringing in a new dynamic to the team.

The Liverpool fan and ex-player now turned pundit, asserts that the club being able to keep Mohamed Salah around despite threats from Saudi Arabia will also play a part in Liverpool’s season this term

“Keeping Mo is not only going to be good for Liverpool but has everything to do with Liverpool. They know what he gives you.

“He gives you goals, he gives you assists, and with him staying there, they should now be looking to challenge Man City as they have done for the last 5 years,”

When quizzed on whether Liverpool can look to be in a title challenge, Jermaine Pennant affirms they are, insisting that when other teams are looked at in comparison, only Arsenal comes into picture.

However the former Arsenal player said;

“At the moment, I will say Liverpool are in a lot better place than Arsenal. I will say that the games they have played, they looked a lot better than Arsenal.”

“That’s not me being bias,” he continued, “I think Arteta is still tweaking. He doesn’t know what is his best play. He is trying to fit everyone in the team. We have seen performance against Fulham. Liverpool playing Arsenal, Liverpool will be the better team. Liverpool will be favorites going into that game,”

“It all has to do with their midfield. It makes a massive difference,” Jermaine Pennant defended.

North London side, Arsenal have seen themselves grow in conversations over the last weeks as Manchester City’s top contenders for the premier league title this season, with pundits not seeing any other team going close to the Gunners in conversation.

However, Mikel Arteta’s team has started the season far lesser than they did last season, and currently sit on the same points as Liverpool in the current league table after 4-game weeks.

Conversations are slowly shifting towards Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool owing to the Reds’ fine display versus Aston Villa at Anfield.

According to Jermaine Pennant, that game would have being a game Liverpool would have lost last season.
