Leaked: Mason Mount favored Liverpool switch over Man United

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is set to be announced as a new signing for Manchester United, although reports suggest that his first preference was actually a move to Liverpool.

Mount’s potential transfer to Liverpool had been widely speculated since January, with manager Jurgen Klopp believed to be an ardent admirer of the 24-year-old midfielder. Mount’s contract situation at Chelsea, characterized by a protracted stand-off over wage demands, further fueled the rumors of a potential move.

With just one year left on his contract, Chelsea ultimately decided to accept a bid from Manchester United, reportedly valued at approximately £60 million, to secure Mount’s services.

However, according to LondonsFirst, Mason Mount initially favored a move to Liverpool. The report highlights the strong relationship between Neil Fewings, who recently started representing Mount, and Liverpool, which could have played a pivotal role in the potential transfer.

Nevertheless, Liverpool appeared unwilling to meet Chelsea’s asking price for Mount, particularly considering his contractual situation. The report suggests that Manchester United’s offer presented the most attractive financial package, potentially indicating that Liverpool also faced difficulties during negotiations with Mount’s representatives.

The exact reasons behind Liverpool’s decision not to pursue Mount further remain unclear. It is speculated that they either failed to meet Chelsea’s valuation or were unable to reach an agreement with Mount’s camp regarding the terms of the transfer.

In recent times, Liverpool have already made significant midfield signings, including Alexis Mac Allister and the imminent announcement of Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for a reported fee of £60 million.

It seems the club determined that Szoboszlai would better fit their ongoing rebuilding project than Mount.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that Mount was reportedly seeking wages close to £300,000 per week from Chelsea. In contrast, Szoboszlai is said to have agreed to a contract with Liverpool worth approximately half that amount per week.

As the news of Mason Mount’s imminent move to Manchester United looms, football fans eagerly await the official confirmation. The transfer saga surrounding the talented midfielder has taken several unexpected twists, adding an intriguing chapter to the ongoing summer transfer window.
