Land grabbing: Lagos Assembly initiates public hearing to tackle issue
In response to the widespread practice of land grabbing in Lagos State, the House of Assembly has resolved to hold a public hearing to address the matter.
Mr. Kazeem Olayinka, the legislator representing Mushin Constituency 2, moved the resolution during a ‘Matters of Urgent Public Importance’ session, emphasising the importance of engaging stakeholders in order to successfully address the issue.
Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the House, voiced deep worry about the worsening situation, emphasising the frightening levels of violence and injustice related with land grabbing.
“Land grabbing has become a serious issue that is beyond disturbing. It is chaotic because many people have been killed. Some maimed and some locked up without trial just because of the existence of some people who have turned themselves into land grabbers,” remarked Obasa.
Land grabbing is the unlawful or unethical purchase of land, usually through coercion, deception, or manipulation, without the approval of the original owners.
