Kalvin Phillips Too Fat, Won’t Play For Me—Pep Guardiola
When Pep Guardiola is being talked about, the first picture that comes to mind is a no-nonsense football manager who has, and stands by his principles, not minding the player’s name or game, and for former Leeds United man, Kalvin Phillips, it stands the same.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has criticized Kalvin Phillips, claiming the England star cannot play for his club because he returned from the 2022 World Cup overweight.
Guardiola claimed that the Englishman’s weight created some issues as it made him “unable to train” with the Manchester City team, thus elongating his time to feature for the Cityzens.
Surprisingly, Kalvin Phillips wasn’t part of the team Pep Guardiola put up to defeat Liverpool in Manchester City’s 3-2 victory in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.
Philips only saw action for 40 minutes for the Three Lions during the World Cup before they were eliminated by France in the quarterfinals.
Prior to their Boxing Day Premier League match, Guardiola stated to the media on Friday:
“He is not injured, he arrived overweight.
“I don’t know [why he is overweight]. He didn’t arrive in the conditions to [take part] in training sessions and to play.
“That’s why he cannot play.”
