Joao Felix Corrects Journalist On Right Pronunciation Of His Name

Joao Felix, the Portuguese footballer currently playing on loan at Chelsea from Atletico Madrid, has revealed that most people have been pronouncing his name wrong all along. The 23-year-old corrected a journalist who had pronounced his name as “Jow Fee-lix”, explaining that it should be pronounced “Je-wow Feh-lix”.

Felix became a surprise arrival at Stamford Bridge in January after Chelsea beat out competition from Manchester United and Arsenal to secure his loan move until the end of the season. He has had a mixed start at Chelsea, receiving a straight red card on his debut in a loss to Fulham. However, he has looked promising in his four appearances since then and will be hoping to help Chelsea overcome a 1-0 deficit to Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Ahead of Chelsea’s crucial match against Dortmund, Felix was asked by a journalist how to correctly pronounce his name. Despite most people pronouncing it incorrectly, including many English and Spanish fans who say “Jow Fee-lix”, Felix explained that the correct pronunciation is “Je-wow Feh-lix”. “Everyone says ‘Fee-lix’, even in Spain, just in Portugal they say my correct name. I don’t know why, I don’t think it’s too hard,” he said. When asked if the mispronunciation annoys him, Felix replied, “Nah! I don’t care.”

Felix was signed by Atletico Madrid in 2019 from Benfica for £113m, making him the fourth most expensive footballer of all time. However, he struggled for consistent form under Atletico manager Diego Simeone and was sent out on loan to Chelsea.
