Jail break in Portharcourt leaves inmates dead and some injured

On Monday, a fight broke out at the Port Harcourt correctional centre which led to an attempt in jail break. This has left some inmates dead and several injured.

Spokesperson of the Port Harcourt correctional facility, Juliet Ofoni, confirmed that two inmates were engaged in a fight leading to the death of one of them, even as a protest ensued amongst other inmates.

The chaos and disorderliness in the correctional facility resulted to inmates trying to scale the facility’s high walls, but were repelled by a combined team of security operatives who shot outside the fence, with 12 of them sustaining bullet wounds.
