It Was A Journey But We Never Gave In—Raphael Varane
France for one gave the world cup a satisfactory end to an already exciting tournament despite inevitably falling to defeat at the end, but if Raphael Varane is proud of one thing his team was capable of, it is hanging on to the last minute.
Raphael Varane, a defender for France, blasted Didier Deschamps’ team for losing to Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday.
Varane claimed that France’s players were not involved in the match with Argentina for an hour and added that they had a poor start.
Despite Kylian Mbappe scoring a hat-trick, the match ended in a 3-3 draw after 120 minutes, and France was defeated on penalties.
“Of course, we are very disappointed, we gave everything,” the Manchester United star told TF1.
“We had to face a lot of obstacles throughout the competition, we never gave in. We weren’t in the game for an hour.
“We could have won, I’m very proud of this group and to be French. We keep our heads high. It went by very quickly, after that we were physically better.
“We pushed and we believed until the end. We nearly turned the game around, after starting badly.
“It was a sinuous journey but there was a mental strength in this team, a lot of heart. That allowed us to get back in the game. We’re disappointed but there’s a lot of pride.”
