Ijesha Monarch urges politicians to base campaign on proposed positivities
Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, has charged politicians ahead of the July 16, Osun 2022 gubernatorial election, to avoid smear campaign against each other. Rather, they should camps about how their service in office will affect the state and nation positively.
While the monarch noted that the people of Ijesaland had always relied on the strength of the unity in the land to achieve development, he advised the candidates.
It was reported that he received the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in his palace at Ilesa and the Monarch urged Adeleke to stand by his campaign promises if he emerged as the governor.
Adeleke ran for Osun state governorship election under the PDP against top contenders Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola of APC and Iyiola Omisore of SDP on 22 September 2018. The election was declared inconclusive by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and a rerun slated on 27 September 2018. The candidate of the APC Oyetola was declared winner after the run-off. Adeleke protested the result describing the election as a “coup”.
Adeleke had earlier informed the royal father of his ambition and solicited his prayers.
