“How to block access to your bank account through phone” – Delta PPRODelta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, has shared the necessary steps one can prevent criminals from accessing their bank accounts in case of mobile phone theft.

Taking to his Twitter (X)  handle on Thursday, The Delta State PRO shared a security advisory post, urging Nigerians to lock their SIM cards with a pin.

According to him, criminals gain access to their victim’s bank accounts because the account is linked to their phone numbers.

He said when the SIM pin is activated, it would be difficult for the assailants to access their victims’ bank accounts.

He said, “When you lose your phone and before you know it, your bank account has been emptied, the criminals didn’t have access to your bank account because they have your phone or mobile banking app, they did because they have your SMS alert sim card.

“Now that’s the reason why you must activate a sim pin on your sim cards.

“It’s not an option, it’s a must, so if you have not done that, do it now. This is a very important security advice”.

People in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, have lost a lot of money to “one chance” thieves who steal phones and empty victims’ bank accounts.

TopNaija recalls how the FCT Police Command paraded Nuhu Zaria and his girlfriend Bunmi Samuel in August 2023. They were accused of stealing money and cell phones from people in the city unknown to the victims until its late.

The command said that Nuhu takes phones, takes out the SIM card, and sells it. Meanwhile, Nuhu’s girlfriend uses the SIM card to steal money from people using bank USSD codes.
