How I met Adekunle Gold — Simi

In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, popular singer Simisola Kosoko, widely known as Simi, shared the heartwarming story of how her husband, singer Adekunle Gold, won her over with his persistence and genuine nature during the early days of their careers.

Simi opened up about their journey from acquaintances to friends and eventually becoming partners for life.

The multi-talented artist disclosed that during the earlier stages of their music careers, Adekunle Gold had been trying to get in touch with her via Facebook.

However, Simi had not noticed his messages until much later when they were already dating.

Recalling the first encounter that marked the turning point, Simi revealed that they eventually crossed paths at one of her concerts. Adekunle Gold attended the show and left a lasting impression on her with his kindness and genuine admiration for her music.

She revealed in a quote;

“In the gospel community, I was pretty well known. And he [Adekunle Gold] had heard my album at that time as well.

“He has been reaching out to me on Facebook, DMing me on Facebook. But I didn’t see those DMs until we started dating.

Simi goes on to share,

“I don’t remember how we eventually linked up again. I had a show at Bogobiri, and he turned up. He was very slim at that time, wearing white BYC and jeans. He came to see me perform. I was like, ‘Oh hey!’ He was like, ‘Oh! I’m such a fan.’ And I was like, ‘Okay!'”

However, it was Adekunle Gold’s persistence and unwavering friendship that gradually won Simi’s heart. She described him as a genuinely nice guy who caught her attention with his unwavering support and admiration for her talent. Over time, their friendship grew stronger, and later that year, Adekunle Gold mustered up the courage to ask her out.

Simi further revealed that despite her initial reservations about entering into a relationship, she was drawn to Adekunle Gold’s kind nature.

She said,

“I mean, as much as I was sounding like all that, I still didn’t really have anything. He was a nice guy, and I was like, ‘Okay, I don’t mind a nice guy.'”

Their relationship blossomed over the years, with Simi and Adekunle Gold dating for five years before eventually tying the knot in a beautiful wedding ceremony in 2019. Since then, they have been one of the industry’s most admired couples, frequently showing love and support for each other’s music careers.
