Hilda Baci was only the beginning, and another Nigerian, Fola David has stood on his turf to shatter the Guinness World Record for his colossal artwork and painting.

In a groundbreaking feat of creativity and endurance, Nigerian doctor and visual artist Fola David has etched his name in history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest drawing by an individual. On July 16, Onikan Stadium in Lagos transformed into a vibrant epicenter of art and ambition as David embarked on his six-day marathon to create a gigantic map of Nigeria.

Hailing from the bustling metropolis of Lagos, David’s Herculean task was not just about breaking records but also about showcasing the rich tapestry of Nigeria’s diverse cultures. Each stroke of his pen aimed to capture the essence and spirit of his homeland, culminating in a masterpiece that far surpasses the previous record of 629.98 m² (6781.04 ft²) held by India’s Ravi Soni since November 30, 2021.

By Friday, David’s monumental artwork had obliterated Soni’s record, unveiling a stunning creation that redefines the boundaries of visual arts. But David’s ambitions stretch even further, as he envisions a staggering 1000 square meters of art, pushing the limits of what is conceivable in this artistic domain.

Throughout his inspiring journey, David was bolstered by a wave of support from prominent Nigerians. The event saw appearances from Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate, Hilda Baci, the renowned chef and ex-GWR holder, and Farooq Oreagba, the dynamic businessman celebrated at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival.

The College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL), David’s alma mater, also showed strong solidarity, adding to the festive atmosphere at Onikan Stadium.
