Six killed in gunmen attack on Benue community
Gunmen suspected to be local militias launched a deadly attack on the Gugur community in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of six individuals.
Local sources reported that the gunmen arrived on motorcycles and carried out the assault between 9 pm and 10 pm.
The Gunmen attack in Benue was confirmed on Wednesday by Jonathan Agbidye, the lawmaker representing the constituency in the state House of Assembly.
Agbidye explained, “Those people in that particular community were against the hoodlums; luck ran out of them and they got hold of two of them in April and killed them.”
The attack was also confirmed by the local government chairman, Shaku Justine. “It’s true that the incident happened yesterday between 9 pm and 10 pm. Six people were killed in the community,” he said.
Both Agbidye and Justine visited the community for an on-the-spot assessment, noting that normalcy is gradually returning to the village.
However, the spokesperson for the state police command, Catherine Anene, stated that she had not yet received the official report of the incident.
