Graham Potter continues to reject Jobs after leaving Chelsea
In the latest twist surrounding the managerial merry-go-round, Graham Potter has reportedly turned down an enticing offer from a significant European club, fueling speculation about his potential move to Manchester United.
According to Sky Sports News, Potter has declined an opportunity to take the helm at Ajax, despite being the Dutch giants’ primary target following discussions with the club.
The former Chelsea and Brighton manager is believed to have opted against the move, a decision that has garnered attention amidst swirling rumors about his next career move.
The 48-year-old has been without a managerial role since his departure from Chelsea in April 2023. However, his name has remained in the spotlight, with reports in December suggesting that he could be a prime candidate for managerial positions, including a potential role at United should Erik ten Hag face the axe.
Bet365 has slashed the odds on Potter becoming the next Manchester United manager to 3/1, making him the favorite for the position.
Other contenders include England manager Gareth Southgate at 4/1, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank, all at 8/1.
Potter’s connection to United’s potential future setup is further strengthened by his past association with Dan Ashworth, who is rumored to be on the verge of becoming the club’s sporting director.
Ashworth previously appointed Graham Potter during his tenure at Brighton, where the Englishman earned praise for his attractive style of play.
In his final season with the Seagulls, Potter guided the team to a finish in the Premier League’s top half.
Despite the swirling speculation, current United manager Erik ten Hag has maintained his focus on the task at hand.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Ten Hag expressed his commitment to the club, stating,
“I don’t have any doubts. I’m just focusing on my job, focusing on this process, in this project. I really love to be here, I’m enjoying it. For me, it’s a challenge.”
