Former Real Madrid Captain blasts Mbappe, asks Club to forget star
Mbappe’s rejection of La Liga giants, Real Madrid in favor of current club, Paris Saint Germain is one that has brought on a lot of pained reactions from those connected with the club; fans, players, ex-players, pundits and everyday football enthusiasts.
Former Real Madrid captain Michel isn’t left out of the narrative as he asks club to give up its interests in the PSG striker after the stunt the French star pulled.
Mbappe chose to reject Real Madrid and sign a new contract extension with PSG this weekend, after keeping Madrid on the edge for months, and using the Spanish club to earn big clauses from PSG in the process, with Madrid loosing out on two key targets; Erling Haaland and Mbappe.
Michel told AS:
“Throughout history, Real Madrid have had great players and have never regretted their departure or absence. In this case, I don’t know if it’s good or bad news for Real Madrid, but for Mbappé it’s bad news.” He claimed.
“Betrayals are only for someone you love and Mbappé had no feelings for Real Madrid, if ever. Now, in 2025, I wouldn’t make him come because due to the circumstances, he had the opportunity and if he doesn’t want to come now, he shouldn’t come later.”
It’s easy to accuse the French man of a lot based on sentiments, but then again, each man thinks only of what is good for them in the long run.
PSG didn’t want to loose its star, France didn’t want to loose the star attraction to its league, Real Madrid and La Liga wanted to improve the face of its league and the club. Both clubs and leagues had everything to loose, Mbappe saw a chance to gain something out of the narrative.
Making Mbappe the enemy, is nothing but cheap sentiments from those connected to Real, and think Mbappe is one to hate, considering anyone going to Real Madrid do so to gain something not necessarily because they have a feeling for the club.
It’s a business at the end of the day.
