Forest grows over Stamford Bridge, Chelsea nowhere to be found
Nottingham Forest return to winning ways against Chelsea at the famous Stamford Bridge stadium in a Saturday shocker to set the Blues’ world on fire and new manager, Mauricio Pochettino back to the drawing board.
The premier league returned for the weekend games with yet another twist to the weekend fixtures as West London side, Chelsea fell to the mercy of Nottingham Forest in a 0-1 defeat on home ground.
The Saturday run up of games had presented fans with a thrill of goals, but the Blues’ clash at the Bridge was another story for the weekend. And thanks to former Manchester United player, Anthony Elanga, via an assist from Taiwo Awoniyi in the 48 minute, produced the perfect story no one expected on the day.
It was very much a result that was least predicted by punters, owing to Chelsea’s refreshed confidence following a comfortable victory a week ago against Luton Town.
The 3-1 defeat to West Ham in the second week could be argued as one of those score lines that happen in the season to set the team straight, but a defeat on home soil 2 weeks after, shows Chelsea have real problems that haven’t been addressed despite their approach in the transfer front.
The game started with the Blues exercising some dominance over Nottingham Forest in possession, but Forest’s resilience in defence and attack, resorted to some quick fire counter attacks that surprised the Chelsea side and placed them under pressure than they hoped for heading into the tie.
Chelsea with a much more balanced squad than Forest failed to cope with Nottingham’s press and counter attack, conceding multiple yellow cards at the break to stop the 6 counter attacking play the visitors posed on their defence.
Of the 2 shots on target the Blues had against Nottingham Forest, Forest registered 3 more to prove the win over Chelsea was by no means a fluke but a correction of the defeat they faced last weekend against Manchester United.
