FG's cash transfer programme reaches 81,000 in Ondo

In a significant effort to mitigate the economic strain on vulnerable households, the FG’s cash transfer programme has expanded to benefit 81,000 residents in Ondo State.

Tosin Olupona, Manager of Ondo Cash Transfer, Office of Public and Intergovernmental Relations, announced the expansion during a training session for local government cash facilitators in Akure.

Organized in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the National Social Investment Programmes Agency, the training aims to ensure smooth implementation of the expanded programme.

Each beneficiary will receive N25,000 per month for three months, a measure designed to cushion the impact of the recent fuel subsidy removal.

“This programme is targeted at poor households to provide economic relief during these challenging times. The increase from 12,000 to 81,000 beneficiaries reflects the government’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable,” said Olupona.

Olupona also emphasized the FG’s cash transfer programme’s accountability measures, stating that beneficiaries were selected from the National Social Register and their BVN and NIN were linked to ensure the funds are directly deposited into their accounts.

In addition, Yemi Pirisola, Administrative Secretary of the Office of Public and Intergovernmental Relations, highlighted the importance of public awareness regarding the agency’s efforts.

She encouraged desk officers and beneficiaries to actively share information about the government’s initiatives to alleviate the economic burden resulting from the fuel subsidy removal.
