The Federal Government has opened up on ordering telecommunications to shut down networks in Katsina State.

Recall that on Friday, September 3, the National Communications Commission (NCC) ordered MTN, Glo, Airtel and 9mobile to shut down operations in Zamfara state in a bid to curb insecurity.

However, on Monday, the NCC vice chairman, Professor Umar D. Danbatta announced that there are no plans to shut down network in Katsina as was effected in the neighbouring Zamfara State.

A story had gone viral on social media saying network providers had been asked to shut down their sites.

Danbatta described the claim as false.

The Commission added that the purported letter trending in the social media was a cloned version of the one sent to Zamfara State, where there is a TOTAL shutdown of telecom sites.

Danbatta advised members of the public to ignore and disregard the trending news that telecommunication sites in Katsina State would be shut down as effected in Zamfara State as it did not emanate from the Commission.
