Media organisations to benefit from FG’s low-interest loans

The Federal Government has announced that media organisations can now access media low-interest loans from the Bank of Industry (BOI) to support their constitutional responsibilities and operations.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, during the Sectoral News Conference Series in Abuja.

“We are creating an enabling environment for all players and stakeholders in the media and information ecosystem to thrive,” Idris stated.

“One commendable step is the directive by Mr. President to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, through the Bank of Industry (BOI), to extend media low-interest loans to media organisations. It is incumbent upon media practitioners to develop bankable proposals to access this financing facility being offered by the Federal Government, and I hope the media will take advantage of this opportunity.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this news conference serves as a sectoral update from various ministries, marking the one-year anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The conference is organised by the Ministry of Information and National Orientation in collaboration with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

According to Idris, the event aligns with President Tinubu’s focus on accountability rather than fanfare in his first year.

This accountability includes showcasing the successes of the Federal Government’s development objectives, known as the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Idris emphasized that his ministry is dedicated to restoring trust in public communication by transparently communicating government activities.

“The organisers of the news conference have ensured the widest possible coverage through traditional and digital platforms,” he noted.

The minister urged the media to report objectively and responsibly, highlighting the narratives and outcomes of the news conference to the world.
