The Lagos State Government has announced the reopening of five markets in the Mushin area of the state.

According to a statement released Friday, the markets were temporarily shut down due to “environmental infractions, including indiscriminate waste dumping.”

The five reopened markets are Mushin main market, Ojuwoye, Awolowo, Irepodun and Daleko markets.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, also stated why the state government decided to temporarily close the markets, saying it was necessary.

Wahab said, “Our decision to close the Mushin markets was rooted in the urgent need to rectify environmental malpractices that posed a threat to public health and the overall well-being of people living in the area.”The Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, responding to Wahab’s statement, said authorities will rest when the state “assumed a cleaner and healthier form.”
