FA to take no actions on Referee who elbowed Andrew Robertson
The Football Association (FA) has announced that it will not take any further action in relation to the incident involving linesman Constantine Hazidakis and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson during the recent match between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield.
Andrew Robertson had accused Hatzidakis of elbowing him in the chin after the half-time whistle, leading to the linesman being placed under investigation by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL). The PGMOL had announced that Hatzidakis would not be appointed to any fixtures during the investigation.
The FA had thoroughly reviewed all evidence, including statements from Liverpool and the PGMOL, as well as multiple angles of video footage, in relation to the incident and its surrounding circumstances. However, the FA has now concluded that no further action will be taken.
In a statement, the FA said, “We have thoroughly reviewed all of the evidence in relation to the recent incident at Anfield involving the Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson and match official Constantine Hatzidakis, and we will be taking no further action.”
The incident between Hatzidakis and Robertson has been widely discussed in the football world. Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane branded Robertson as a “big baby” during the aftermath of the match, while former England striker Chris Sutton suggested that Hatzidakis would likely face a suspension for his actions.
Meanwhile, Hatzidakis has stated that he has had a positive conversation with Robertson and apologized, saying, “It was not my intention to make any contact with Andy as I pulled my arm away from him and for that, I have apologized.”
The FA’s decision not to take further action marks the end of the matter, but it has sparked a debate on social media regarding the incident and whether Hatzidakis should have been punished.
