The Attah of Aiyede Kingdom in Ekiti State, Oba Abdul Mumini, has been given medical care after he escaped being kidnapped in the state.

According to source, Oba Mumini was attacked by suspected kidnappers on his way from Ijero Ekiti at about 9:30 pm on Sunday.

In a statement signed by the Monarch’s publicity consultant, Bashir Adefaka, the withdrawal of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operatives attached to him may have encouraged the kidnap attempt.

The armed assailants said to be about 10 ambushed the Kabiyesi at a spot between Isan and Iludun, in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of the state.

Adefaka wrote, “Kabiyesi, whose security guards provided by Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were withdrawn recently for no given reason, was returning Ijero Ekiti when he got accosted by the criminal elements, on a spot at between Isan and Iludun, in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of the state.

“The gunmen opened fire on the SUV car during which one of the bullets that penetrated from the other side of the vehicle hit the Kabiyesi on his left leg. He was rushed to a specialist hospital in Oye, Oye Ekiti Local Government and is now responding to treatment.

“Good news, apart from his life being saved, is also that no other member of his entourage got hurt”.

A source also testified;

Kabiyesi (traditional ruler) was travelling along the road around 8.30pm. The gunmen, in a bid to kidnap him, fired several shots into his car, but due to the deft move by his driver, they managed to escape from the scene.

“Unfortunately, some bullets hit the monarch in the leg. As I speak to you, kabiyesi is now in the hospital receiving treatment following the gunshot wounds, especially in his legs; we pray for his quick recovery.

“That particular axis is now notorious for kidnappings and attacks by bandits. The axis has been in the news for the wrong reasons in the last one year over the activities of bandits attacking people on the road, but government has not done anything to address the situation.”
