Ekiti man steals N100,000, lands in court

On Wednesday, a 30-year-old man identified as Adeagbo Adedayo was arraigned by the Ekiti State Police Command before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged assault and stealing of N100,000.

 

The defendant was arraigned on two counts of assault and stealing. The police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that Adedayo and others at large committed the offences on May 11, 2020, around 7pm in the Oke-Bola area of Ado Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant and others at large assaulted one Peter Kehinde by beating him with a stick and injuring him on his left ear.

Akinwale stated, “The defendant and others at large stole the sum of N100,000 belonging to the complainant.

“The offences contravene sections 355 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”

The prosecutor asked for an adjournment so that he could study the case file and present his witnesses before the court.

Adedayo pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The counsel for the defendant, Mr Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olanike Adegoke, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned till June 25, 2020, for mention.
