Danladi Isa assumes duty as Abia’s 34th Commissioner of Police

Danladi Isa officially took over as the 34th Commissioner of Police in Abia State on Thursday, succeeding Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, who was promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and redeployed to Zone 15, Maiduguri.

 

Isa, a native of Oganenigu in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Ahmadu Bello University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Imo State University. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and has since undergone extensive training in policing and strategic leadership.

Before his posting to Abia, Isa served as Commissioner of Police, Admin, at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos. He previously held roles as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Gombe State Command, Zone 12 Bauchi, and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit at FCID Headquarters, Abuja.

During his maiden media briefing at the Abia Command headquarters in Umuahia, Isa outlined his commitment to ensuring peace and security in the state. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with all stakeholders, including security agencies, community leaders, and the public, to create a conducive environment for law and order.

Isa pledged to prioritize intelligence-led policing, aiming to proactively address crime by gathering and analyzing relevant information. He also stressed a zero-tolerance policy for corruption within the command, promising swift punitive actions against any officer involved in corrupt practices.

His predecessor, AIG Onwuemelie, expressed gratitude to the officers for their cooperation during his tenure and urged them to extend their full support to Isa. He also thanked Abia Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for their support to the command.

The official handover ceremony included the transfer of command documents from Onwuemelie to Isa.
