Daniel Amokachi fails to show up for work at Super Eagles camp

With only a few days left until the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa, tension has gripped the Super Eagles’ camp due to the unexplained absence of assistant coach Daniel Amokachi. His failure to join the team has fueled speculations regarding his role within the coaching staff led by Finidi George.

Sources close to the team revealed to DAILY POST that Amokachi has rejected the contract offered by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). This development has intensified rumors of a rift between Amokachi and head coach Finidi George.

Amokachi was among the assistant coaches announced by the NFF, alongside Benjamin James, Olatunji Baruwa, Chima Onyeike, and Mehmet Ozturk. However, there are suggestions that the NFF might have imposed Amokachi on Finidi, a claim that NFF President Ibrahim Gusau has strongly denied.

“I am very happy when we unveiled Finidi to Nigeria. The NFF Technical Director put all the names on the list and they chose the best they felt would work. All the names you saw as assistants to Finidi were chosen by him,” Gusau stated.

Despite these assurances, Amokachi’s continued absence and the surrounding controversy have cast a shadow over the team’s preparations. The Super Eagles are now facing the prospect of heading into a vital qualifier amidst internal discord, a situation that could potentially impact their performance on the field.

As the clock ticks down to the match against South Africa, fans and analysts alike are keenly watching to see if the Super Eagles can resolve their internal issues and focus on securing a win to boost their World Cup campaign.
