Copa America: Suarez blasts former Manchester United star

Former Barcelona and Liverpool player, Luis Suarez may have his differences with Manchester United, but a recent comment by an ex-Manchester United star has forced the Uruguay international’s hands into narratives he may tend to avoid.

Following the Copa America tournament, Andreas Pereira had made a statement ahead of the fixture between Uruguay and Brazil, which the Uruguayan did not take too kindly with.

Ahead of the clash, Pereira had confidently asserted that Brazil boasted a team “that Uruguay dream of having.”

Suarez, never one to shy away from defending his squad, offered a pointed rebuttal following Uruguay’s victory.

“We have the best midfielders in the world, top-level players,” Suarez remarked to reporters.

The former Atletico Madrid star added;

“To talk about Uruguay, you have to have a little more respect and know the history of Uruguay. Before I say which players want to be on the Brazilian national team, I have to say that the person who made that comment was [Giorgian] De Arrascaeta’s reserve [at Flamengo], who is the best player in Brazilian football. So imagine what it’s like for us to hear that.”

The quarter-final match was a testament to Uruguay’s resilience and skill, ending in a tense penalty shootout. Manuel Ugarte emerged as the hero, scoring the decisive spot-kick after Eder Militao’s attempt was saved and Douglas Luiz hit the post, sealing Brazil’s fate.
