Controversy Arises as Chef Hilda Baci Faces Criticism for Dog Delicacy
Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who gained widespread recognition for her record-breaking feat of completing 100 hours of non-stop cooking, has found herself at the center of a heated debate.
In a recent social media post, Baci shared a video showcasing various delicacies she had prepared, but it was the inclusion of a dog delicacy that ignited a firestorm of criticism and controversy.
The video, posted late yesterday, drew immediate backlash from a significant number of Nigerians.
Many accused Baci of perpetuating the stereotype that Nigerians consume dog meat, while others raised ethical concerns about the unnecessary killing of animals, particularly dogs.
Calls flooded in, urging Baci to remove the video from her social media page.
Amidst the growing furor, Jackie Idimogu, the president of the “My Dog and I” group, took to her own platform to express her disappointment and condemnation of Baci’s actions.
Idimogu revealed that she and her colleagues, along with their beloved dogs, had previously shown their support for Baci during her recent cook-marathon.
She highlighted the profound love and respect dog owners have for their pets, considering them as family members.
Idimogu questioned Baci’s conscience, expressing disbelief that she would serve a dog delicacy alongside other dishes, effectively perpetuating the notion that Nigerians endorse such practices.
