Renowned chef Hilda Bassey Effiong, better known as Hilda Baci, has faced backlash following her recent attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. Despite successfully surpassing the previous record set by India’s Lata Tandon, achieving an impressive 100 hours of non-stop cooking, her certification from Guinness World Records is still pending review.
During her appearance as a guest on the popular “I Said What I Said Podcast,” Hilda Baci revealed that her record-breaking feat was met with criticism from individuals who believed she was “too blessed.” According to the talented chef, some people were unhappy with her attempt because they felt intimidated by her beauty, culinary skills, and undeniable charisma.
“It’s not fair,” she shared, recounting the remarks she received. “How can she be not only talented but also stunning? How does one person possess all these qualities? That’s not how life works.”
Speculations also arose that Hilda Baci had paid for extensive publicity to promote her record-breaking attempt. However, she vehemently denied these claims, highlighting that the level of attention her endeavor received was far beyond what any amount of monetary investment could generate.
“The PR that we invested in, how much was it? How many outlets covered it?” she questioned. “The kind of earned media that the attempt got, you cannot pay for it. You can’t plan for it, you can’t buy it. It’s grace. You can only hope for it.”
Despite the controversy surrounding her record-breaking endeavor, Hilda Baci’s achievement remains a remarkable feat within the culinary world. Her tireless dedication and passion for cooking enabled her to surpass the previous record by a significant margin, showcasing her exceptional talent and commitment to her craft.
While the Guinness World Record certification is still pending review, many fans and supporters eagerly await the official recognition of Hilda Baci’s extraordinary accomplishment.
