Davido, Chioma wedding: Uzodinma won't stand for any slander

The Imo government has firmly denied any widespread insecurity impacting social events, following claims that such concerns led Afrobeats superstar Davido and Chioma to choose Lagos over Imo State for their famed Chivido24 traditional wedding.

In a pointed statement, APC heavyweight Joe Igbokwe blamed IPOB, the Eastern Security Network, and other armed groups for Chivido24 not becoming a thing in Imo State.

“As lovely and colorful as CHIVIDO’s wedding was, I deplore the clear and terrible fact that it took place in the South East,” Igbokwe wrote. “A well-known prestigious Adeleke family from Osun State could not go to SE to perform the traditional marriage for son Davido and bride, Chioma.”

Responding to these accusations, Onwuasoanya Jones, speaking on behalf of Governor Hope Uzodinma, dismissed the claims as unfounded. Jones emphasized the governor’s dedication to maintaining Imo State as a secure area, arguing that Davido and Chioma’s choice of venue was not influenced by security issues.

“The narrative that the cultural marriage ceremony was held in Lagos because of insecurity in Imo State or the Southeast is not correct,” Jones stated. “Imo State, especially the axis where this marriage ceremony could have been held, if Davido chose to hold the ceremony in Nkwere or Owerri, are among the safest places in the Southeast.”
