Canada has heightened its travel advisory for citizens regarding travel to Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank, citing an escalated risk of attacks on Israeli territory.
Foreign Minister Melanie Joly issued a statement on social media platform X late Friday, urging Canadians to avoid all travel to the region. Additionally, she advised Canadians already in the area to consider departing using commercial means.
In her statement, Joly emphasized the volatile nature of the regional security situation, warning that it could escalate without prior notice due to the heightened risk of attacks on Israeli territory.
This advisory represents an upgrade from the previous recommendation, which advised Canadians to avoid non-essential travel to the region.
The increased concern comes amidst statements from U.S. President Joe Biden, who expressed his expectation of Iran launching attacks on Israel, cautioning Tehran against such actions.
Biden stated his anticipation of potential attacks “sooner, rather than later,” underlining the tense atmosphere in the region.
In Joe Biden’s address to the world, the United States president promised to remain an ally to Israel, vowing to defend the nation against expected threats from Iran.
