Following the death of his principal, Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo State Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is set to be sworn in as the state’s governor today in Akure.

Aiyedatiwa will be sworn in by the state’s Chief Judge at 4 p.m. inside the Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure.

According to SaharaReporters, Aiyedatiwa was already on his way to Akure from Igbokoda, where he had spent the holidays.

A top government source disclosed that: “Ondo State will be swearing in Lucky Aiyedatiwa as governor in Akure today. The swearing-in is slated to be held at the Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure. However, no time has been fixed yet for the event.”

Recall that Akeredolu died in a German hospital on Wednesday morning which has generated reactions and condolences from several quarters.

Following a three-month medical leave in Germany, the ailing governor returned to Nigeria in September but refused to travel to Akure, the Ondo State capital, to resume office.

Instead, Akeredolu remained in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, and attempted to govern the state from there, sparking public outrage and calls for him to resign from office due to his inability to resume work as governor.

Governor Akeredolu recently took another leave after President Bola Tinubu directed him to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Following President Tinubu’s intervention in the political impasse, Aiyedatiwa has been serving as acting Governor, and peace has since returned to the South West state.
